The creation of art is one of the vital benefits of human civilization. Intrinsic in these same developed societies are maladies and painful complexities that we can only strive to better understand. Through the combination of these destructive realities and our human ability to create a natural fondness for the cultivation and encouragement of art flourishes. Following this progression, I use art to bring the violence I experience on a daily basis to the forefront of the more cultivated art world. Art to ignite reflection, and artistic creation to spur a dialogue of resolution is the underlying purpose of pursuing this career. I find solace in the tradition of painting to both memorialize and reason my subject matter. This is the natural progression of humanity and it is folly to devoid ones culture or self of art and of peace. The two are synonymous. I will shape the environment around me into one that seeks a transformation from the callousness of violence, an environment that promotes equality, compassion and a desire to improve. There must be an ever present self-interrogation of how we can improve our environment. The concept of civilization is an ever evolving search for growth and development, without this forward motion the civilizations themselves will crumble. For myself, the expressive nature of art presents the perfect medium to begin a path towards realization of our own value and the value of every member of our society.
